A successful end to 2008

This buck appeared in Patsy Sweet's back yard THE DAY AFTER HUNTING SEASON ENDED.

Seems he had been reading a DEC calendar. He also looks like he's pulled this trick for a few years now.

Hope your 2008 ends with you as healthy and secure as this guy.

Thanks to Patsy for her "stealth cam" photo.

Christmas snowshoes and a Christmas camera

We found these two sisters trying out some new "Christmas snowshoes" at Cole's Woods and they were kind enough to let us photograph them for this Blog. The trails at Cole's Woods will be featured in the Winter edition of EcoLocal Magazine. The trails are also featured in our recent book on cross country skiing/snowshoeing in the Lake George Region. And, thanks to Beth Kopp of Hallowell, Maine and Jen Kane of Glens Falls, NY for being such good sports while I fumbled with my new "Christmas camera". :)

Albia Pond

The snow and cold are not necessarily bad things. This past Sunday we were able to go out and find and enjoy a short trek into Albia Pond and explore some great terrain. It will probably appear in one of our future books on skiing/snowshoeing in the Saratoga area. Since it is located beyond Lake Desolation, with no signs, we suggest you wait untiul the book comes out to explore it. But here is a beautiful shot of what we found.

Beautiful, but......

From my old 1st Sergeant Vic LaPlante comes this beautiful vision where nature has put a glimmering coating of ice on some tree branches in his yard. However, in doing so, she knocked out the electricity for about 100,000 homes in the Albany, NY Region.
Mother Nature wins again!
Thanks Vic for sharing.

Northern Culture Shock

When a lady from Southern Florida visits the North Country in December she might just find new experiences, including "snow". Bobbie Tartaglino snapped this photo of a trail adjacent to the Upper Hudson River near Warrensburg, NY this past week. Apparently walking on snow and ice was a new experience for her. Luckily she is back safely in Florida in 75 degree temperatures. But she tells us her North Country experience was "interesting."
But she didn't volunteer to come back in February!:)
