It's finally out!!!!

25 Cross Country Ski and Snowshoe Trails in the Lake George, NY Region
By: Roger Fulton and Michael Carpenter

We spent an entire winter exploring snowy trails in the Lake George Region on both cross country skis and snowshoes. We have chosen 25 of the best trails for you to get out and explore. The difficulty and lengths vary, but nearly all are easy or moderate, with the emphasis on easy. As always, we give you explicit directions from an Interstate (I-87). More than 60 full color photos help you find the trailheads and navigate the trails so you can see what we have seen.
This is just the book to help you get out of the house on a clear winter day to enjoy the beauty and serenity of the North Country in winter. So whether you choose a flat, short and easy trail in Queensbury, or want a full week retreat at a cross country ski resort in the Eastern Adirondacks, it’s in this book. Get out and enjoy!

Fall is slowly falling

Mother Nature is painting her usual Fall colors across the North Country as we speak. The color changes are subtle in the Glens Falls area. Head north toward Lake George and they are at about 25% change and increasing daily. Go up to Hague and the change is pushing 50%. Wherever you go in the North Country you will see change and beautiful colors. It's one reason we live here.

The Last Lake George Bike Ride!

The Padanarum Cemetery is where the last bike ride for the Lake George area biking book STARTED today. And, luckily it didn't END there. But we did have an exciting 3.5mile ride down a seasonal roadway, dropping 600 feet in the first 2 miles or so. (Not sure since my eyes watered up in the wind.) Hit a max speed of 24 miles per hour according to the computer. Not bad for a couple of "mature" guys on a gravel roadway. (Mature meaning age, not demeanor.)
So this is one of the more "demanding" trails in the upcoming Lake George biking book. But there are 24 others. Many are either paved and flat, some a little gravelly and flat, and then there are the more demanding trails. After all, our motto is "Outdoor books for ordinary people." But every now and then, even ordinary people need some excitement in their lives. And this book will provide some of it.
It now goes to Mike for editing and then to the publisher. Look for it to be available in early spring of 2009. R

Ski/Snowshoe Lake George

We are told that this book will be available for our regular customers, VERY soon. But it won't be officially released until October 1st. We wrote it last winter. It's in our usual format, with great directions, GPS readings and tales of what we found. Covers both cross country skiing and snowshoeing areas in the Lake George, NY Region. It should be available for sale on my webpage in a couple of days. Be the first in your neighborhood to own one.

Lake Woodruff National Wildlife Refuge, Florida

It's after Labor Day and normally the hot and humid weather of a Florida Summer would be starting to wain. That would set the stage to get out and explore the 450 acres of dikes and ponds at Lake Woodruff National Wildlife Refuge near DeLeon Springs, Florida, our favorite Central Florida wildlife spot. But 16 inches of rain from one recent storm, and more on the way, has turned the area into one big lake. Chris Friesen of DeLand, Florida sent us this photo of what the normally dry entranceway looks like right now. So unless you have a canoe to explore the area, I suggest you spend your time hiking and biking at some of the other Florida locations listed in our books.
