Cortland Standard Newspaper Article September, 2012

This is the essence of an article published by the Cortland Standard Newspaper about my recent move to Cortland and  my future work in the area.

Noted Outdoor Writer Moves to Cortland, NY

A well known writer of outdoor trail guide books has recently moved to Cortland, NY. Roger Fulton is known for his “Outdoor books for ordinary people” as he writes simple regional hiking, biking and kayaking guidebooks for New York State and Florida. Among his 27 currently published guides are sets for the 1000 Islands, Lake George and Saratoga Springs Regions of New York State. Another series covers Central and Northeastern Florida.
His recent move to Cortland will spark a new set of regional guide books for the Finger Lakes Region.
“I expect to be quite busy exploring the entire region for several years for hiking, biking and kayaking,” he told us in a recent press release. “We don’t write about anything that we don’t actually physically go out and do.”
In addition to his trail guides he also conducts tours and Powerpoint presentations on outdoor topics such as Safe in the Woods and other outdoor topics. Most are free to interested non-profit organizations
“I thoroughly enjoy seeing the awe in the eyes of a child as they learn about nature and how amazing it is. And, hey, the adults learn amazing things as well!.”
You can review all of Roger’s programs and currently published titles on his webpage at:, or you can contact him personally at:

Getting settled in the Finger Lakes Region

It has been a little over two months since I moved to the Finger Lakes Region. And now it is time to get moving on some regional trail guides for hiking, biking and canoeing and kayaking in this Central New York Region. I'm up to the task and "on the case." Stay tuned.
If you are local, I'm open to ideas and company on the trails.
